I hoped as the downward spiral began that perhaps the issue would resolve itself in the next novel. My reaction to this was вЂњOh heeeeere we go, againвЂ¦вЂќ I was disappointed that yet again, Zoey was second guessing her feelings for Erik, but I wasnвЂ™t expecting what came next. I was still glad we were back together, wasnвЂ™t I? CouldnвЂ™t I just stay glad and not let the good things we had between us be messed up because I was freaked that he was going to want more from me than I could give him right now? IвЂ™d been glad that he and I were back together. I reminded myself that Erik really was a great boyfriend. вЂњYes,вЂќ I whispered without one instant of hesitation.Д«ut with this book, the author began her campaign to throw one of my favorite characters under the bus, and I still have no real idea why. I still want to be with you, Zoey, if youвЂ™ll just say yes.вЂќ вЂњI couldnвЂ™t be fooled by Neferet or hypnotized by Kalona because IвЂ™m already a fool for you, hypnotized by what I feel for you. All thatвЂ™s happened between us hasnвЂ™t changed that, even if I wanted it to.вЂќ He cupped my face in his hands. Then, in one rush he said, вЂњI love you Z. He looked like he was a diver getting ready to jump off a high, dangerous cliff. вЂњEven after all thatвЂ™s happened between us, you can say that?вЂќ My eyes were filling with tears, and I had to blink fast to keep them from spilling over. It started off promisingвЂ¦my adrenaline and love hormones were ringing with anticipation.

In fact, I was so incensed that I took almost a week off, to reflect, and get used to the вЂњnew turnвЂќ the series took, before completing my latest reviews. While IвЂ™m still technically enjoying this series (the suspense remains intriguing and is continuing nicely with each book), I have to say that this one (and book# 6) really upset me. And this book, yes, at times, was just too much. Mind youвЂ¦IВ kinda likeВ Sour Heads too, I just donвЂ™t devour them as fast, and вЂњsquinchвЂќ my face every time they get to be too much. I was mowing through these books as if they were candy! I LOVE candy! But the series went from chocolate covered cherries to Sour Heads.
